Archie Blackadar
Class of 2010

He started as carflagger in the Flathead coupe days working the starts from the middle of the track. Later he went on to be a part owner of the Waterford and Catamount Speedways in Vermont.

Blackadar served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1950.

He worked at all the asphalt tracks in New England plus most of the dirt tracks in Vermont, New Hampshire and Quebec before 1960.

Archie then went on to work under Bob Sall as a NASCAR Steward for thirty years (1961-1991). He worked out of an office at the NASCAR headquarters in Daytona, FL from 1968-1993.

Archie was the first official to use the “Purple K” safety system throughout New England as far north as Montreal, and south to Trenton, NJ.

Archie was always aided by his faithful wife and companion “Pete”.  Archie, along with his wife worked for Bob Bahre from the 1970’s until his death in 1993.
