Tribute to Tom Ormsby April 23, 2014 |
The New England Antique Racers extends a sincere thanks to our friend & fellow club member Tom Ormsby for his dedication and work over the years on our website.
NEAR Webmaster, contributor and former Plainville Stadium modified racer, Tom was hospitalized with a serious illness in March and continues to recuperate.
He selflessly volunteered to take-over as Webmaster of the NEAR site several years ago. He dramatically increased our club’s online presence with a completely new site that was current, informative, and easy to navigate. He added several features that were at the time, quite revolutionary. His proven format continues with the revised version of the site.
A long-time NEAR devotee, Tom was also responsible for organizing several events including the Waterford Speedbowl’s NEAR Hall of Fame Weekend held several seasons-ago. Now a resident of Lecanto, Florida, he continued to maintain the NEAR site as well as others, for years after moving to Florida.
Although one suspects his heart remains at Plainville Stadium, he has become a major contributor to New England auto racing history in general and has been a key factor in the success of the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame.
